Vaseline - 5 beauty uses

Vaseline - The Best Beauty Product Ever!
One Cheap Product, 5 Beauty Uses

Every woman needs a jar of Vaseline in her cupboard. Stop the snickering, please, and give us a chance to explain. Makeup artists, beauty experts and many of our own mothers have been relying on this cheap, multi-purpose goop for everything from dry skin to frizzy hair for years. Get yourself a jar - stat - and check out these top beauty uses for one of our all-time favorite beauty bargains.

1. Eye Cream
Sure, you will glisten in the dark, but petroleum jelly will soften the skin around your eyes while you sleep. We cannot attest to its wrinkle-fighting powers, but we know some (good-looking) grandmas who will!

2. Dry Skin
From scaly elbows to rough heels or cuticles, your driest patches will be no match for the mighty Vaseline. (Tip: cover slathered feet in socks to keep your sheets clean!)

3. Frizz Tamer
From split ends to untamed eyebrows, the tiniest dab rubbed between your fingers will tame any out-of-control hair.

4. Lip Gloss
Out of lipstick? Grab a lip liner, blend some color all over your lips, and top with Vaseline for instant color shine on the cheap.

5. Eye/Cheek Gloss
Mix a bit of Vaseline with powdered eye shadow or blush for a highlighting sheen. Apply sparingly – you don’t want people to see their reflections in your makeup.

Marc by Marc Jacobs Painted Intarsia Gloves

Why aren't you wearing this?
Marc by Marc Jacobs Painted Intarsia Gloves

Winter's coming, and you need to make sure you have the right tools to cope with the drop in temperature. We tend to lean toward items that, for one thing, can be worn with multiple things, and for another, can be adjusted according to temperature. These Marc by Marc Jacobs Painted Intarsia Gloves do just that.

Basically, they're gloves, but have a cool fingerless overlay to keep your arms extra toasty when necessary. Plus, they're really unique -- we'd wear them the way the model is, with a tee, before it gets bitter cold. Or, if we had a really cool manicure, we might just leave the glove part off altogether and just wear the fingerless overlay.

AJM Fashions has them in Black/Green and Pink/Tan. At a great, discounted price!

Back to School

It's time for Back to School shopping. AJM Fashions has gorgeous coats, boots, sweaters, jeans, and more - all at AMAZING prices. Here are some tips for your kids, and don't forget that you deserve to look great too!

How to Online Shop for Back to School Clothes Cheaply

STEP 1
Look through last year's school clothes and have the child try on anything that seems as though it may not fit anymore. Put these aside for selling or donating. Notice the gaps in the wardrobe, whether they be in the categories of long sleeve shirts, fleece jackets, turtlenecks, sweaters or corduroy pants. Also, reflect on what the child usually wears versus what he refuses to wear. Otherwise, you may invest in ten sweaters only to notice that he never wears any of them.

STEP 2
Organize or streamline your needs. Narrow down and focus on the categories and sizes you will target. Lean toward the large sizes; for example, if the child is size 10, search for size 10 to 12 rather than size 8 to10. Write these categories and sizes down or keep them in mind while shopping online.

STEP 3
Search through Ebay, using keywords that relate to your category and size, keeping in mind these tips. Favor sellers that allow you to make an offer, provide free shipping or combine shipping costs. Look for lots (can be typed in as a search term); this is usually a shipping bargain, and you don't have to buy, for example, one long sleeve shirt at a time.

STEP 4

Note the condition of the pre-owned clothing and aim for very good to excellent. Also, always note the seller's rating and make sure it is high in order to ensure a dependable transaction.

STEP 5
Realize that you can search according to location (local sellers can mean lower shipping) as well as by lowest price plus shipping. Bookmark your favorite seller's stores for future reference.

STEP 6
Google your target purchase to find other online stores that may offer free or low shipping, or simply bargain or outlet specials. These may include Target, Children's Place, Gap, REI, Altrec, Lands End, L L Bean
and others; check for sales regularly. It often helps to wait to go back-to-school shopping until October or November.

STEP 7
Click through the Babies and Kids category on Craigslist for local sellers of gently used children's clothing. This can result in some great finds, especially for younger children.

Neon Nails Summer Trend

NEON NAILS

Looking for a little bit of innocent fun? As we near the end of July, you have a few more weeks to make sure you've participated in one of the most fun summer trends - NEON NAILS! They are everywhere this summer! Manicures and pedicures in bright colors are a great way to express your fun side. Plus, they are inexpensive and temporary.

Take a cue from The City's reigning beauty queen, Erin Lucas. She turned up at last week's NYC fete for Hugo Boss's recently revamped BOSS Orange collection sporting a very appropriate shade of nail polish for the event--yes, neon orange. The line is all about an edgy, sexy sense of downtown cool, and so is Miss Lucas's look.

You might not have noticed her day-glo mani and pedi if she'd been wearing a floral dress or a busy combination of patterns and colors (or worse, you may have noticed them in a "please-stop-hurting-my-eyes-with-your-insane-clashing" way), but against the backdrop of a simple black dress, they totally pop. She also keeps the rest of her accessories both minimal and neutral, to help draw your attention to that totally wow tone. The simple LBD really works here, but you can try the same idea out with a plain white T-shirt and jeans or with a little white dress.

Go for Orange, Purple, Pink, Yellow OR even Blue!

Backyard BBQ Fashion

Show up to your next BBQ in Style!

During the summer, casual outdoor activities are fun and popular. If you are spending the day at a backyard BBQ, you can dress cool and casual, yet also sexy.

Instead of showing up in a T-shirt and shorts, wear a summer dress. It's casual and comfortable, yet still stylish and sexy. A dress th
at falls just above the knee in a spring color is an ideal choice.

Instead of flip flops, select a pair
of jeweled thong sandals. You can find a wide variety of flat sandals adorned with jewels, crystals, stones and other embellishments.

Some general tips for jeans:
* Look for a waist that buttons or snaps easily (laying down on the bed to do it doesn't count). For low-rise jeans, make sure they don't bind or you'll create a "roll" effect over the top.
* The crotch/back seam portion should fit comfortably without grabbing.
* Make sure the jeans are long enough to wear with whatever you have planned to go with them, including boots or heels. They should reach the top of your footwear in the front. Some manufacturers are even making angled hems to keep you from wearing out the back of the hem.
* Heavy, stiffer fabrics (right-hand twills) won't hang as well on your body. Look for softer weaves and washes that will drape your lower body.
* A slight flare looks good on just about every body type.
* The darker the denim, the thinner you will look. Conversely, you'll look larger in lighter washes (and the new treatments that make you new jeans look old that feature "worn" areas will highlight your figure wherever they are -- like the backside of your jeans; the folds of the crotch, etc.)
